Emergency Contacts

   If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, are in immediate danger, or believe you may harm yourself or someone else, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. You may go to either a medical or psychiatric emergency room to be evaluated.

If you are experiencing a mental-health crisis but are not in immediate physical danger, the following resources are available:


Mental Health & Suicide Crisis:

  • 24/7 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988 or use the 988 online chat. The 988 Lifeline provides crisis counseling and referrals for anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts, emotional distress, or a mental-health crisis.


Sexual Assault

  • 24/7 National Sexual Assault Hotline / RAINN: Call 1-800-656-4673 or visit RAINN for confidential support, information, and resources for survivors of sexual assault.


Domestic Violence & Relationship Abuse

  • 24/7 National Domestic Violence Hotline: Call 1-800-799-7233, text START to 88788, or visit The National Domestic Violence Hotline. Advocates can provide crisis support, safety planning, and local resources.


Human Trafficking

  • 24/7 National Human Trafficking Hotline: Call 1-888-373-7888, text 233733, or visit the National Human Trafficking Hotline. Support is available for individuals experiencing or concerned about sex or labor trafficking.


Child Abuse, Neglect, & Exploitation

  • Texas Abuse Hotline / Texas Department of Family and Protective Services: Call 1-800-252-5400 to report suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a child, an adult with a disability, or an adult age 65 or older. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
  • Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline: Call or text 1-800-422-4453 for crisis intervention, support, information, and resources related to child abuse and neglect.


Veterans & Military Service Members

  • 24/7 Veterans Crisis Line: Call 988 and press 1, or text 838255. Veterans, service members, National Guard and Reserve members, and their loved ones can access crisis support.

Youth & Runaway Services

  • National Runaway Safeline: Call 1-800-786-2929 for crisis support and resources for youth and young adults who are considering running away, are experiencing homelessness, or are otherwise in crisis.
  • National Safe Place: Find a Safe Place location for youth who need immediate safety and support. Designated Safe Place locations may include fire stations, community centers, and participating businesses.


Substance Use & Addiction

  • 24/7 SAMHSA National Helpline: Call 1-800-662-4357 for free, confidential information, treatment referrals, and resources related to mental-health and substance-use concerns. Services are available in English and Spanish. You may also text your ZIP code to 435748 to locate treatment resources.


Poisoning & Medication Overdose

  • 24/7 Poison Control: Call 1-800-222-1222 for free, confidential guidance regarding suspected poisoning, medication overdoses, or other toxic exposures. If someone has collapsed, is having a seizure, is having difficulty breathing, or cannot be awakened, call 911 immediately.


Disaster & Traumatic Event Support

  • 24/7 Disaster Distress Helpline: Call or text 1-800-985-5990 for crisis counseling and support related to natural or human-caused disasters, traumatic events, and emergencies.

Domestic & Sexual Violence Resources


  • Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas: 1-800-252-5400 — Helps connect children and families affected by abuse with local Children's Advocacy Centers and coordinated support services.
  • Love Is Respect: 1-866-331-9474 or text LOVEIS to 22522 — Provides information, support, and resources for young people experiencing unhealthy or abusive dating relationships.
  • StrongHer — Provides support, education, groups, and resources for women affected by abuse and other traumatic experiences.
  • Texas Advocacy Project: 1-800-374-HOPE (4673) — Provides free legal and social services to Texas survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking. Their legal line can provide information regarding protective orders, custody, divorce, and other civil legal concerns.
  • Texas Department of Criminal Justice — Integrated Victim Services System (IVSS) — 1-800-848-4284 — A free, confidential Texas resource that allows crime victims, surviving family members, witnesses, and concerned citizens to obtain information about offenders in TDCJ custody or on parole/mandatory supervision and register for notifications regarding changes in offender status, including parole review, release, discharge, and certain warrant actions. The Victim Services Division also provides assistance with crime victims' rights, Victim Impact Statements, Crime Victims' Compensation applications, safety planning, parole-related processes, and referrals to local victim services. 
  • VINELink — Provides information and notification services regarding offender custody status in participating jurisdictions.

The organization is Christian-based and welcomes families of all faiths and backgrounds

  • Warmlines — Peer-support telephone services for individuals who would like to talk with someone but are not experiencing an immediate crisis. Availability varies by state.


Veterans & First Responders


  • America’s Little Helpers — Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes — Provides free support, resources, virtual events, educational programs, and connection opportunities for children and young adults of wounded or disabled Veterans. The program helps children cope and thrive while living with the effects of a parent’s military-related physical or mental health challenges. Eligible children and young adults are generally ages 3–24, with eligibility based on the Veteran parent’s qualifying combat injury/disability and other requirements.
  • Combined Arms — Connects Veterans, service members, military families, and caregivers with free, vetted resources nationwide, including housing, employment, benefits, food assistance, wellness, financial assistance, and other supportive services. Its network includes organizations across all 50 states, helping individuals identify resources based on their specific needs. 
  • Disabled Veterans National Foundation (DVNF) — Health & Comfort Programs — Provides assistance to eligible Veterans across the United States, including food assistance, housing support, emergency financial assistance, comfort kits, and wellness resources. Programs are designed to support Veterans who are disabled, low-income, homeless, or otherwise experiencing financial hardship.  
  • Give an Hour — Provides access to mental-health resources and support for military members, veterans, first responders, and other communities.
  • REBOOT Recovery — Christian, trauma-informed support groups and resources for veterans, first responders, military families, and others affected by trauma.
  • U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) — Provides nationwide, no-cost or low-cost services and benefits for eligible Veterans, service members, and their families, including healthcare, mental-health services, disability benefits, housing assistance, employment support, education benefits, caregiver support, and crisis resources.   • Mater Maria — Catholic Charities Dallas — 972-836-9378 — Provides no-cost maternity housing and comprehensive support for pregnant women experiencing homelessness or significant housing instability. Services include safe housing, three meals daily, baby supplies, transportation, case management, counseling and wellness support, prenatal and postpartum health education, lactation support, doula support, parenting and life-skills education, employment assistance, and housing-stability planning. Mothers may stay for up to 12 months depending on eligibility and individual circumstances. The program serves pregnant women age 18+ and new mothers with infants up to six months old who meet program requirements.
  • Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas — Postpartum Resources — Provides a free online collection of postpartum and new-parent resources, including breastfeeding support, postpartum anxiety and depression resources, parenting resources, and connections to free local programs such as parenting classes, perinatal support, lactation services, and doula support. Resources are available for families in the Dallas–Fort Worth/North Texas area and beyond. 
  • Texas Health — Support for New Moms — Provides free postpartum resources for new mothers, including a free postpartum/newborn guide, support groups for moms after birth, breastfeeding support groups, Mommy Mixers, virtual postpartum and newborn-care guidance, baby-development resources, and information about postpartum recovery and pelvic health. 
  • Uplift Parent — Childcare Resources — Information and resources for locating childcare assistance and childcare services in the Dallas–Fort Worth area.


Counseling & Mental Health Support


  • ChristianWorks — CounselingWorks: 1-800-375-2229 — Christian counseling services in Dallas and Fort Worth provided by licensed and provisionally licensed therapists. Affordable sliding-scale fees are based on household income and ability to pay. Additional financial assistance may be available through church, employer, or organizational sponsorships. Veteran & Military Resources

 

  • Catholic Charities Fort Worth — Provides support for Veterans, active-duty military members, and their families through case management, financial assistance, housing-stability support, mental-health services, resource navigation, and coaching. Services are designed to help low-income Veterans and families experiencing housing or financial instability.  
  • Veterans Resource Center of Dallas — Provides a local starting point for Veterans experiencing homelessness, financial hardship, or other challenges. Services include benefits navigation, peer support, homelessness assistance, employment resources, and connections to more than 200 local Veteran resources. Proof of military service is required for services.  
  • Veterans Center of North Texas — Provides benefits navigation, resource coordination, and assistance connecting North Texas Veterans with housing, healthcare, financial, employment, and other community resources. 
  • Dallas County Veterans Services  — Helps Dallas County Veterans, dependents, and survivors obtain VA and Texas Veteran benefits. Services include benefits advocacy, assistance with applications and supporting documentation, and help navigating healthcare, disability, survivor, and other Veteran benefits.  
  • Collin County Veterans Services — Provides benefits counseling and assistance to Collin County Veterans, dependents, and survivors, including help navigating federal and Texas Veteran benefits. 
  • American GI Forum — National Veterans Outreach Program (NVOP) — Provides Veteran-focused housing and supportive services in Dallas, including assistance for Veterans and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Supportive Services for Veteran Families can help eligible households with housing stability and related needs.

Austin

Childcare & Family Resources


  • Any Baby Can: 512-454-3743 -   Provides free family support, case management, developmental services, education, and resource navigation for families of children with disabilities, developmental delays, chronic health conditions, and other special needs.
  • Partners in Parenting — Provides free peer-support groups and parenting resources for new and first-time parents in Austin and Central Texas. Facilitated groups help parents build community and receive support around topics such as infant feeding, sleep, child development, childcare, relationships, self-care, and the emotional transition into parenthood. Groups include in-person, virtual, and Spanish-language options. 


Counseling & Mental Health Support


  • Hope Counseling Program — Texas Baptist Children's Home: 512-255-3682 - Provides no-cost, trauma-informed counseling for eligible Williamson County residents, including individuals, couples, families, and youth. Services are provided by licensed counselors and the program is based on Christian values. 
  • Friends of Austin State Hospital: 512-419-2333 -  A local nonprofit supporting children and adults receiving inpatient psychiatric treatment at Austin State Hospital through patient advocacy, recreational and therapeutic activities, community education, and additional resources that enhance quality of life.

The Community Kitchen provides a free nutritious lunch Monday–Friday from 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.; other services have eligibility requirements.

  • Foundation for the Homeless: 512-453-6570 -  Provides housing-stability services and rapid rehousing for eligible families experiencing homelessness, as well as free breakfast and basic-needs assistance through its Feed My People program.   • Legal Aid of Northwest Texas: 888-529-5277 -  Provides free civil legal assistance to eligible low-income individuals and families throughout North and West Texas. Services may include help with housing, family law, domestic violence, public benefits, consumer issues, and other civil legal matters. Eligibility and available services vary. 


Veterans & Military Families


  • Samaritan Center — Veteran & Military Services — Provides mental-health and supportive services for veterans, active-duty military members, and their families in Central Texas.
  • Vet Center -  Provides confidential, no-cost individual and group counseling, couples and family counseling, PTSD and trauma support, military sexual trauma counseling, grief support, and readjustment services to eligible Veterans, service members, and their families. Veterans do not need to be enrolled in VA healthcare or have a service-connected disability to receive Vet Center services. Telehealth and telephone counseling are also available.

  • Project One Day: 832-603-1153 — Provides tuition-free, Christ-centered childcare for infants and toddlers in Houston. 
  • Houston Birthing Connection: 832-308-0776 — Provides free, confidential pregnancy and parenting support for pregnant and parenting teens and young adults in the Greater Houston area. Services include emotional support, case management, parenting education, housing and basic-needs assistance, transportation to prenatal and pediatric appointments, workforce training, career development, and life-skills support. 


Addiction & Recovery


  • Mosaics of Mercy: 346-703-0051 — Provides free mental-health and substance-use resource navigation by phone, helping individuals and families identify appropriate local treatment, recovery, and support resources. 
  • The Council on Recovery: 855-942-4100 — Provides substance-use treatment, recovery support, counseling, family services, and mental-health support for individuals and families in the Greater Houston area. State-funded treatment options are available for individuals who cannot afford treatment, with eligibility determined through an assessment. The Council also offers a free weekly Wayfinders support group for family members and loved ones affected by someone else's substance use. 


Domestic & Sexual Violence Resources


  • AVDA (Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse): 713-224-9911 — Provides free, confidential support for survivors of domestic violence, including counseling, support groups, safety planning, advocacy, legal assistance, and help navigating protective orders and other legal matters. Services are available in English and Spanish, with additional services for children and adolescents affected by domestic violence. AVDA also provides intervention and prevention services for individuals who have used abusive behavior.

Legal Aid


  • Houston Bar Association — LegalLine: 713-228-0735 — Provides free legal advice and referrals by phone on a variety of civil legal matters, including family law, housing and landlord/tenant issues, foreclosure, veterans' benefits, immigration rights, debt, and other legal concerns. LegalLine is generally available on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month from 5:00–8:00 p.m. Additional sessions, including a Spanish-language line, may be available. Services are available to residents of Harris and surrounding counties.

San Antonio

  •  Be Well Texas Clinic: 888-852-3935 — Provides evidence-based outpatient treatment and recovery support for individuals experiencing substance use disorders and/or mental health concerns. The San Antonio clinic offers in-person care, with virtual services available throughout Texas. Low- and no-cost treatment options are available to those who qualify, including individuals without insurance or the ability to pay 
  • San Antonio Council on Alcohol & Drug Awareness (SACADA): 210-225-4741 — Provides substance-use prevention, education, recovery information, and referrals to treatment and community resources for individuals and families in the San Antonio area. 


Childcare & Family Resources


  • Ascension DePaul Services of San Antonio: 210-334-2300 — A Catholic community ministry providing free social-service assistance to eligible individuals and families in South San Antonio and Bexar County. Services include food assistance, clothing and hygiene items, emergency utility assistance, benefits navigation, parenting support, diapers and formula through the R.A.Y.S. Parenting Program, and connections to healthcare, childcare, and other community resources. Bilingual English/Spanish assistance is available.  
  • Brighton Center: 210-826-4492 — Provides developmental and educational services for children with disabilities or developmental delays and their families throughout San Antonio and Bexar County. Services include Early Childhood Intervention (ECI), developmental support, family resource navigation, special-education advocacy, parent education, and pediatric therapy. Many ECI services are provided at no cost to eligible families, including evaluations, assessments, family-resource connections, individualized planning, and translation/interpretation services.  
  • City of San Antonio — Community & Financial Assistance: 311 or 210-207-6000 — Connects San Antonio residents with free community resources and assistance, including utility assistance, financial counseling, employment and job-training support, free tax preparation, housing and homelessness resources, food assistance, childcare resources, and public-benefits navigation. The City’s Community Connections Hotline is 210-207-1799 and helps residents connect with housing/rent assistance, emergency shelter, utility assistance, food resources, transportation, mental-health and substance-use services, and other community programs.

  •  San Antonio Coalition for Life (SACFL) — Free Services — 210-668-1993 — Provides connections to free pregnancy and parenting resources in the San Antonio area, including free pregnancy testing, prenatal education, breastfeeding and parenting classes, pregnancy and postpartum doula services, breastfeeding guidance, car-seat safety classes, baby and maternity supplies, housing for pregnant women, financial/resource assistance, and referrals to additional community support. SACFL also provides information about the Texas Safe Haven/Baby Moses Law and connects women with life-affirming pregnancy and parenting resources.  
  • San Antonio Child Care Assistance — Provides information about childcare assistance for eligible San Antonio families, including help accessing affordable childcare and related services. 
  • University Health — Mommies Program — 210-863-6039 or 210-840-3688 — Provides free pregnancy and postpartum support for women with substance-use concerns, including connection to methadone or buprenorphine treatment and recovery services, specialized prenatal care, peer counselors, social workers and resource navigators, free doula services during pregnancy through the child's third birthday, prenatal education, transportation assistance for appointments, breastfeeding support, and postpartum follow-up. The program can provide support for up to a year after delivery and offers baby supplies such as car seats, Pack 'n Plays, or strollers upon program completion.

Counseling is available for concerns including unplanned pregnancy, pregnancy loss, postpartum depression, sexual abuse/assault, parenting a child under age 3, and post-abortion experiences 
  • Sarabia Family Counseling Center — UT San Antonio: 210-458-2055 — Provides free counseling services to San Antonio community members, including individuals, couples, and families. Counseling is provided by master's- and doctoral-level counselors-in-training under the supervision of UT San Antonio faculty. 
  •  St. Mary’s University — Family Life Center : 210-438-6411 — Provides free counseling to the San Antonio community, including individual, couples, and family services. Counseling is provided through the university’s Family Life Center by clinicians-in-training under licensed supervision. 
  • The Center for Health Care Services (CHCS): 1-833-501-2427 — Provides mental-health and substance-use services for children and adults. CHCS does not deny services based on inability to pay and offers charity care and income-based assistance for eligible individuals.

The City also provides information about tenant/landlord mediation and other housing-related legal resources. 
  • San Antonio Law Help (SALawHelp.org) — Free legal-resource directory for San Antonio and Bexar County that connects residents with free and reduced-fee legal services, legal-aid organizations, attorney referrals, and self-help legal information.
